A panicked swan died shortly after being dragged out of the water by a tourist vacationing in Macedonia.

The woman, identified as someone traveling with a Belgian tour group, tried to pose for a photo with the bird, who she allegedly plucked off the shore of Lake Ohrid, located in south-western Macedonia. The incident was first reported by local media.

Macedonia Online reported that the swan did not initially react when the woman first approached the animal, being accustomed to humans leaving the local swans alone. But when the tourist grabbed the swan by the wing and dragged it onshore, the swan could be seen in photos struggling to get free.

According to eyewitnesses, the swan was later left ‘motionless on the beach’ and died from its injuries.

The woman has yet to be identified nor have local authorities reportedly taken action as of this time.

    • The first line under the picture above reads: “A panicked swan died shortly after being dragged out of the water by a tourist vacationing in Macedonia.” It should read: “A panicked swan died shortly after being dragged out of the water by a STUPID tourist vacationing in Macedonia.”

  1. Sounds all too familiar ! Not the same but what the hell is wrong with ‘tourists’ who abuse wildlife !!
At least our Mevagissey swan is still alive and thankfully very well after a German tourist thought it would be fun to pick him up and slam him against a stone wall !
